MONROVIA, LIBERIA — The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) has published its quarterly macroeconomic bulletin, reporting that real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanded by an estimated 5.1% throughout 2025 and early 2026, outperforming regional West African growth averages.
The expansion was heavily driven by a massive 17.2% rebound in the mining sector, reflecting increased iron ore extraction by ArcelorMittal and surging commercial output from commercial gold concessions operated by Bea Mountain Mining Corporation in Grand Cape Mount County.
Executive Governor of the Central Bank Henry F. Saamoi highlighted that monetary tightening and active foreign exchange interventions have stabilized the Liberian Dollar (LRD) against the US Dollar, suppressing year-on-year consumer inflation down to 6.8%.
The report notes that non-extractive sectors—including domestic palm oil milling, commercial forestry, and retail commerce at the Free Port of Monrovia—demonstrated resilient expansion, providing broad-based employment opportunities across urban centers.
